Care

The Care Ministry at King of Glory Lutheran Church is where we connect as a compassionate community, reflecting the love of Jesus. Through prayer, support groups, pastoral care, and acts of kindness, we walk alongside one another during life’s joys and challenges. Our mission to connect, grow, and live inspires us to build meaningful relationships that ensure everyone feels valued, supported, and embraced by Christ’s love.

Elders of King of Glory

The Elders’ responsibility is the spiritual mission and health of the church. Elders are a representative cross-section of the Congregation. They are selected by the Senior Pastor and Board Chair to assist in the Mission and Vision: to Connect to God and His people, Grow in faith and love, and Live through service and sharing, that ALL may know the love of Jesus. Each Elder has member/family units assigned and is responsible to pray for those in their care and establish monthly contact through telephone calls, notes, email, and a ”Hello” at worship. Elders meet monthly as a group to report on concerns of their members, review the actions reported by the staff, learn contact skills, share prayer concerns, and pray for the King of Glory church, staff, congregation, and pastors and families.

Comfort Dog Ministry

Team Solomon is the local extension of the Lutheran Church Charities K-9 Comfort Dog Ministry, a national human-care ministry that embraces the unique, calming nature and skills of purebred Golden Retrievers. Through Comfort Dog Solomon, the team at King of Glory becomes a bridge for a compassionate ministry, opening doors for conversation about faith and creating opportunities to share the mercy, compassion, presence and proclamation of Jesus Christ. To support the community, Team Solomon makes regular visits to provide a respite from the day-to-day stresses for first responders and law enforcement, educators and students, senior living residents, rehabilitation and cancer patients, hospice patients and their families, and veteran agencies and programs, to name a few. In the case of a traumatic community event, Team Solomon attends community vigils, school events, and more to help those who are hurting and begin the healing process.

Parish Nurses

The Parish Nurses’ mission is to care for the church members whenever they need comfort by visiting the sick, providing resources for their condition, and treating them holistically in a physical and spiritual manner.

Stephen Ministry

Stephen Ministry is a one-on-one caring ministry where trained Stephen Ministers offer confidential, Christian care to individuals experiencing difficult times. These might include grief, hospitalization, divorce, job loss, or loneliness. Stephen Ministers walk alongside those who are hurting, providing a listening ear, encouragement, and spiritual support.

Every Stephen Minister receives over 50 hours of training in Christian caregiving on topics such as listening, feelings, assertiveness, confidentiality, and ministering to people in specific situations such as divorce, terminal illness, and grief.

The Prayer Shawl Ministry

The Prayer Shawl Ministry welcomes all who would like to use their knitting and crocheting talents by making items for those in need of comfort and those celebrating occasions. They make scarves for Prayer Bears that are given to children as well as pocket crosses for Confirmands and those in the service. The Prayer Shawl Ministry also makes Prayer Scarves for high school graduates in their school colors or the King of Glory colors.

Flower Visitation Ministry

Flowers are given for worship services to the glory of God, in loving memory of family and friends, in celebration of milestones, or in honor of dear loved ones. After worship services, the Flower Visitation Ministry delivers those flowers for the care and blessing of the ill, shut-ins, bereaved, or those in need of a friendly visit.

Meal Ministry

The mission of the Meal Ministry Team is to provide delicious meals to those who may need a helping hand during recovery after a surgery or illness, or for funeral receptions when needed.

Divorce Care Support Group

The Divorce Care group is open to all individuals affected by separation or divorce, whether the process is current or happened years ago. Divorce Care addresses the emotional impact that a person and his or her children are experiencing along with  avenues of empowerment to continue a healthy Christian journey. The study is Christian-based and situated in a safe and confidential environment to encourage sharing feelings freely.

GriefShare

The GriefShare support group is a safe, welcoming place where people understand the difficult emotion of grief. Through this 14-week program, attendees will discover what to expect in the days ahead and what is normal in grief. Talking with other people who understand brings great comfort, normalizes the grief experience, and offers a supportive environment to work through one’s grief.
