Social Outreach

King of Glory Lutheran Church’s Social Outreach Ministry empowers us to live out the love of Jesus in our community and beyond. Through service projects, partnerships, and outreach initiatives, we share God’s grace by meeting the needs of others with compassion and generosity. Guided by our mission to connect, grow, and live, we strive to make a lasting impact so that all may know the transformative love of Jesus. If you would like to get involved with these ministries contact Pastor Linnell.

If you are a Virginia Peninsula resident looking for assistance with financial difficulties King of Glory has a direct partnership to provide aid through the United Way's Community Assistance Network (CAN).  Please call them at (757)229-2222 (Press Option 1).

Social Outreach Ministries at King of Glory

Backpack Ministry

King of Glory partners with a local school to help provide breakfast and lunch items for the weekends during the school year. School counselors determine students who are in need of this service. The school provides backpacks, and each Friday the backpacks are filled with food collected at KOG and sent home with the children. This ministry generally provides food to fill an average of 10 backpacks each week.

Loaves & Fish

KoG’s Loaves and Fish is one of 23 partners in the From His Hands (FHH) Christian ministry that has served meals to those in need in the Williamsburg and James City County Area since 2007. On four Tuesdays each year, Loaves and Fish prepares and delivers meals for 50 people in need at the Grove Christian Outreach Center, and every month on the fourth Friday, Loaves and Fish prepares and delivers meals to people who call a local motel “home.” In addition to the single meal, Loaves and Fish also provides bags of additional motel-friendly food.

Summer Meals for Kids

Summer Meals for Kids is a partnership with Williamsburg Area Meals on Wheels and FISH providing daily meals for 200 homeless and low-income children at various locations across Greater Williamsburg. KOG supports this ministry by volunteering to make sandwiches, bake brownies or cookies, and help pack the lunches.

Kairos

The KOG Kairos Prison Ministry team partners with men from other churches in the region to serve the inmates at Nottoway Correctional Center. Through two four-day weekends each year, along with monthly and weekly activities, the Kairos team shares God’s love with the incarcerated. The motto of Kairos is: Listen, Listen, Love, Love.

Winter Shelter

The Community of Faith Mission is a faith-based emergency shelter program that serves those experiencing homelessness in the Greater Williamsburg area by providing eighteen weeks of shelter during the winter season. Host Church sites rotate weekly and are supported by partner churches. As a Host Church, King of Glory has volunteers who provide security, check-in, overnight monitoring, check-out, and three meals per day for seven days. It requires over 140 KOG volunteers along with volunteers from two Partner churches to fulfill the Host Church commitment to COFM and the community.
